Stearic acid is one of several major long-chain fatty acids that make up oils and fats. It is found in animal fats, oils and some vegetable oils in the form of glycerides. These oils are hydrolyzed to obtain stearic acid. Stearic acid is a fatty acid widely present in nature. It has chemical properties of general carboxylic acids. Almost all oils and fats contain stearic acid with varying content. It has a high content in animal fat, such as the content in butter, the content in vegetable oil is less, tea oil is 0.8%, palm oil is 6%, but the content in cocoa butter is as high as 34%.

Stearic acid is widely used in cosmetics, plastic cold-resistant plasticizers, mold release agents, stabilizers, surfactants,
